Here at Belly Bandit HQ, a women-owned and operated company, we believe in celebrating the success of all women in business! Our “Moms Who Made It” series is our way of honoring Mompreneurs who inspire us every day.
This week we're featuring, Rachel Jackson, the founder of Rachel’s Remedy, Breastfeeding Relief Packs. Rachel’s goal was to create a product that could relieve, soothe and prevent the most common (and uncommon) breastfeeding conditions and with these practical and portable packs she did just that!
Describe your business philosophy in 5 words:
"Improve life for moms everyday."
What inspired you to start your business?
Making life better for breastfeeding moms was my inspiration to start my business and it is still my inspiration today. My business was born out of total frustration. I experienced painful clogged ducts while I was breastfeeding my children, and my doctor and IBCLC recommended warm wet washcloths applications that got cold every 2 seconds and made it impossible to wear a shirt, or that I lean into bowls of warm water on my kitchen counter (seriously, you can’t make this stuff up!). I was determined to invent a better solution for nursing moms.
When did you know you, “made it?”
When did you know you, “made it?” When you asked me to be a part of this series! I really felt like I “made it” or reached a really big milestone when Babies “R” Us started selling Rachel’s Remedy. I’ll never forget how exciting that was.
Who is your mentor?
I have a lot of mentors. My parents are the most important mentors I have. They have always taught me to follow my dreams and trust my instincts. I wouldn’t have had the courage to do this without them.
What's your #1 tip for moms interested in starting their own business
Talk to other entrepreneurs and business people and lean on them for advice and assistance – don’t reinvent the wheel.
What does “me” time mean to you?
This is going to sound REALLY lame, but “me’ time (for me) usually means watching a show on Netflix after the kids go to sleep, or just having some time to myself so I can get things done that I normally can’t. Spa days are a very distant memory in a distant past. Oh, how things have changed.
What‘s on your bedside table?
Target’s shipping guidelines and Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles. I work all the time and miss reading but don’t have time right now – except to my kids. I always make time to read to them.
